ECMO
ECMO is a Springer Spaniel Poodle mix who has been at my side for 4 years now. I do love him quite a bit!
He was born on April 1, 2022, and loves to supervise tasks! He is very helpful in around the house, especially around dinner time.
Despite having no formal scientific training, he has participated in much of my field work and is vital to the success of my research.
Why The Name ECMO?
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
In February 2022, I was placed on ECMO for three days following a
severe reaction to COVID-19. Afterwards, I decided it would help my recovery if I had a companion to go on walks with me, so we found a puppy and named him ECMO.
The name was chosen because like the ECMO Machine, ECMO the dog had been healing my heart. It was also a running joke in the hospital that I would name my dog after ECMO, and I do love a good bit.
ECMO has been a member of the family ever since, having 4 cat siblings, and 4 human siblings. I love him quite dearly.
